Proven Tips to Stop Masturbating

“It's perfectly normal,” “It reduces stress,” and “There's really nothing wrong with it.” The world tries to convince us that there is no harm in masturbating. However, the Lord, last I checked, is unconcerned about what the rest of the world thinks. Other regulations have been established by the Lord for us to obey. The Law of Chastity is one of the rules. Unfortunately, I believe that masturbation has become more and more common. I've put up a list of advice and resources to assist others in learning how to quit masturbating. This article is geared toward young men and teenagers, but the advice may be used to anybody suffering with this addiction.

1) Self-Reward

Never give yourself a reward for quitting something you're attempting to quit. Never declare, "I've done such a terrific job!" if you've been clean for three weeks and feel quite accomplished. I'm going to reward myself by masturbating right now.” This, I can assure you, does not work the majority of the time.

2) Tempting Situations

When we're weak, such as fatigued, anxious, irritated, or depressed, temptations strike. Have a plan of action in place for each of these feelings in case you're tempted. You won't be able to think clearly in the midst of these feelings. However, if you have a strategy in place, you will know exactly what to do to resist temptation when it arises.

3) Late Evenings

Late-night temptation is well-known. Wear something else than boxers if you're tempted in bed or late at night. If necessary, layer up to three or four times. If you have to, put on even more. Sleeping in may be uncomfortable, but if it helps, go ahead and do it. The idea is that you have a lot of layers to remove before you can masturbate. You should be able to control your thoughts before all the layers are eliminated if your mind is strong enough.

4) Impossible Expectations

When you go a long time without masturbating, your mind starts to play tricks on you, saying things like, “It would feel so good!” Normally, giving in does not feel as nice as you had hoped. Even if it works, it's only for ten seconds before you feel ashamed, guilty, and upset at having to start over after having come so far. Your mind creates expectations and notions that aren't true.

5) Eliminate Pornography

Remove all pornographic materials from your home. And you'll have to take it seriously. Any publications you may have should be discarded. You won't be able to keep any buried beneath your mattress. You're still holding on to your addiction if you're holding on to only one small magazine. Remove it from your life. If you have a computer in your room, relocate it to a public area of the house so that everyone can view the screen.

I bet you won't be looking at pornography if your parents are nearby. If you have access to a public computer but are having problems getting online when no one is home, make every effort to avoid being alone at home. If your parents are going to the store, accompany them, and so on.

This includes getting rid of anything that reminds you of masturbating, such as condoms, toys, or anything else. Remove it from your life. Now.

6) Maintain a busy schedule

Don't even consider it. Distract your mind with something else. Have you ever seen a smoker sit on his couch all day and say to himself, "Man, I wish I could smoke right now..." That person ever quit smoking? I'm really desiring a smoke right now...” No. Obviously not. The more you think about it, the more likely you are to succumb to your addiction. Do you have a passion for something? Investigate it. Now is the time to find a hobby if you don't already have one. Do everything you can to keep yourself occupied in some way. The more mental activity it involves, the better. Doing a puzzle, for example, will keep your mind more engaged than watching a movie. Find something to do that will not quickly distract you.

7) The Action Plan
Make a strategy for moving forward. Because we are all unique, we will be tempted in different places and at different times. Some people are tempted in their beds at night, while others are enticed in the shower. While using the restroom, some people may be tempted. Consider all the times and places when you're most tempted to masturbate during the day. Prepare a strategy for each of these occasions. Decide right now what you're going to do to avoid it, because you won't be able to think properly if you wait until later. It could be as simple as lowering yourself to the ground and performing twenty pushups. If you're tempted in the shower, clean yourself with a washcloth rather than skin-to-skin contact. Whatever it is, make sure you have a sound plan of action, or two or more, in place so that you can rapidly flee the temptation when it arises.

Daily vigorous physical exercise has been proposed as a way to help diminish the desire to masturbate.

8) Persist in your efforts.
Last but not least, don't surrender. You are capable of achieving your goals. I'll keep my word. I understand how it can feel like you'll never be able to quit. It's possible that you've been attempting to stop masturbating for years. That's OK. Jesus Christ's Atonement is genuine, and you have the ability to change.

One point that I believe is worth mentioning is that there is a "hump." Meaning, it gets easier as you go over a certain point. After three to a month, your body will begin to slow down and you will no longer experience pressure build-up. Just keep moving forward. You've got this. You're doing a fantastic job! I'm very proud of you for wanting to make a change.
